Akathisia Management

Akathisia is psychomotor agitation with a subjective sensation of inner restlessness and purposeless motor activity.

Reduce the dose of the antipsychotic (If practical)

Switch to a different generation antipsychotic

Medications:

• Mirtazapine 7.5-15 mg daily

OR

• Clonazepam 0.5-2.5 mg daily

OR

• Propranolol 20-40 mg po TID
